Donte Johnson vs. Eric McConico
UFC 330 · August 15, 2026 · Xfinity Mobile Arena
McConico's losses have both come against surging, athletic prospects, and Johnson fits that profile exactly. The veteran's length and patience will make it competitive, and Johnson's low-volume approach means rounds could be close if he cannot hurt McConico early. But Johnson is the harder hitter, the better athlete, and the man with momentum, and McConico has been stopped by this caliber of opponent before. Johnson by knockout in the middle rounds or a clear decision is the smart call, though nobody should be shocked if the old man drags him into deep water.
The Matchup
This is the UFC's favorite kind of matchmaking: an undefeated prospect against the credible veteran who exposes pretenders. Both men beat Cody Brundage by split decision within the past year, giving a rare direct comparison, and both fight southpaw. McConico will have four inches of height and three inches of reach, plus the confidence of having just neutralized a far more decorated grappler in Rodolfo Vieira. Johnson is the quicker, more explosive athlete with real one-shot power, but he has never gone five pro rounds against someone as durable and composed as McConico. At 36, McConico's window is closing; at 27, Johnson's is just opening.

Donte Johnson
“Lock Jaw”
Donte 'Lock Jaw' Johnson is an undefeated middleweight prospect out of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, who punched his ticket to the UFC with a 64-second knockout on Dana White's Contender Series in August 2025. Six of his eight pro wins have come by knockout, and he backed up the hype in his UFC debut by choking out Sedriques Dumas in the second round. He is short for the division at 5'8", but he compensates with explosive southpaw power and surprising physicality in the clinch. His most recent outing, a gritty split decision over Cody Brundage, showed he can grind out rounds when the finish is not there.

Eric McConico
Eric McConico is a late-blooming middleweight who did not reach the UFC until he was 34, taking a short-notice debut in February 2025 after years on the regional scene. A former college running back with a southpaw boxing style, he has become a legitimate gatekeeper: he outpointed Cody Brundage, gave rising prospect Baisangur Susurkaev nearly three hard rounds, and then shut down jiu-jitsu ace Rodolfo Vieira over three rounds in April. His 68 percent takedown defense and refusal to panic against grapplers are his biggest assets. He is 2-2 in the UFC, with both losses coming against unbeaten prospects.
