The result
Elves Brener def. Josiah Harrell — KO/TKO (punches), R1 4:14
Elves Brener snapped his losing skid with a highlight-reel first-round finish of Josiah Harrell at UFC Vegas 121.
Brener stuffed a Harrell takedown attempt, reset in the center, and landed a right hook that sent Harrell face-first to the canvas before follow-up strikes forced the stoppage at 4:14 of round one.
The breakdown below was written before the fight.
The read
This is a grappling-heavy style clash between two fighters trying to rebound.
Brener's submission craft is live in any scramble, but Harrell's wrestling background gives him a real chance to dictate where the fight happens.
A competitive fight that likely gets decided on the mat one way or the other.
The matchup
Both men are looking to snap recent setbacks — Brener off back-to-back losses, Harrell off a knockout loss in his UFC debut.
Brener's grappling pedigree and submission threat give him a path against a wrestler who has never had to defend takedowns against someone this skilled off his back, while Harrell's own wrestling base could neutralize that exact threat if he can control where the fight happens.
